Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of communities. For those who haven't been aware of it frequently confuse it with an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel lived in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. In her early years she hoped to become professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." Once I outgrew male partners and gave up, I decided to give up. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. In Brugel's case it was because of the advice by her drama instructor in high school who pushed her in the direction she needed. Her teacher invited her to try out for roles in the school's production. She was able to audition and be cast as Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions on small and big screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the series and only appeared on occasion.
